On the 10th December 2013 at the first community drop-in session for The Crystal Palace Project the subway was specifically mentioned in the "Questions & answers about the proposal" document that was handed out.
Point 9 in that document stated that the subway "will be an integral part of the new Palace". Since then the proposed development by ZhongRong Group has become part of the subway's recent history and as such is documented on this site.
Crystal Palace Park – Val Shawcross asks and Arup answer some questions
Many of you who are interested/have concerns about the current proposals for Crystal Palace Park will have attended a recent meeting of the Crystal Palace Chamber of Commerce on this subject. Following the meeting, Val sent a list of questions to Arup, the developers’ agents summarising many residents and stakeholders’ concerns.
Arup have now supplied the below answers to some of these questions, although some remain the responsibility of Bromley council to answer, which we will continue to pursue.

Park Lottery bid turned down
Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund application for Crystal Palace Park turned down
Wednesday 8 January 2014 - Statement
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund (BIG) have assessed a £4.5m application from the London Borough of Bromley to their joint parks programme for the restoration of Crystal Palace Park. After careful consideration in a highly competitive round, it was decided that they were unable to support the project.
Sue Bowers, Head of HLF London, said on behalf of HLF and BIG:
“Whilst this project has good potential, news of proposed plans of a multi-million pound private investment into rebuilding the Crystal Palace, including the full restoration of the park, meant that at this time our trustees felt this application was a lower priority for Lottery investment. In addition, it was in a competitive round of applications that was more than two times oversubscribed.”
• In 1998, Bromley Council received an HLF grant towards repairs and restoration of a number of historic elements in the south-east corner of the park, including dinosaurs, a boating lake and a cricket ground.
• The first phase was successfully completed 10 years ago and these proposals are part of the second phase.
Development design competition managed by local company
"ZhongRong International Group has asked Colander to set up and manage a three stage competition to identify architectural teams to design the new Crystal Palace."

Earlier this year Bromley Council confirmed to the Friends of Crystal Palace Subway that it has secured almost £60,000 worth of funding from the Greater London Authority and English Heritage to carry out a detailed structural survey of the subway’s retaining walls.
The exclusivity agreement is not thought to affect this survey work as it is considered necessary for the upkeep and repair of the subway.
